The change to dropping your ball Our current dropping procedure (Rule 20-2) states you must ‘stand erect, hold the ball at shoulder height and arm’s length and drop it’. The new rule (14.3) says a player must ‘hold the ball above the ground without it touching any growing thing or other natural or artificial object’. You must then ‘let go of the ball so that it falls through the air before coming to rest.’ This change in height is in keeping with a more casual attitude seen throughout the new rulebook that will make it easier for new golfers to learn.
